Employee engagement vs workforce performance
Engagement shows whether people want to do the work. Workforce performance also asks whether they can keep doing it.
Employee engagement describes how people feel about their work and organization: whether the work feels worth doing, whether they trust the people leading, whether they have people to rely on, and whether they can develop. It is a measure of commitment.
Workforce performance is wider. It asks whether people are committed and whether they have what they need to keep going: what they start the day with, time to recover, room to concentrate, and the ability to hold up when pressure keeps going.

|---|---|---|
| Main question | Do people want to do the work? | Can performance be sustained? |
| Measures | Commitment, drivers of commitment | Commitment, and what people have available to act on it |
| Typical output | Engagement score, drivers, benchmarks | Results across both, with where performance is held back |

Both categories overlap. Most engagement platforms measure some aspects of workload or wellbeing. The difference is whether what people have available is measured directly and reported next to engagement.
More on the second half: employee capacity.
